Free Photo Apps Continue to Amaze

What the amazing world of photo apps has done for photography has continually amazed us, and perhaps better still, it shows no signs of slowing down. You may of course have already heard about the free Zoner Photo Studio Android app. But this week, we’ll be taking a look at a few more that we thought you should be aware of before you embark on your next photographic journey.

Have Fripito, Will Travel

The recently released Fripito app is an intriguing effort as the developers have essentially combined two things that go quite well together – travel and photography – in detailing this effort. They refer to the app as “ a virtual bookstore with many travel-photo guides right in your pocket” and that’s a fairly apt description.

The app was created by photographers and ardent travelers and aimed right back at the same two groups. The app provides both directions to quiet and interesting spots at the destination you’ve chosen to travel to and then adds specific instructions on how to capture that particular spots’ authentic atmosphere and spirit.

Users can also provide comment on the photographs and texts of the Fripito guides to help keep the information the app provides accurate and up-to-date. You can download all the necessary data the app provides to your device before your trip eliminating the need for Internet connection or signal coverage, making it easy to consult the app’s guides no matter how remote the location you’re traveling too.

The added twist here is that this is an app that will continue to grow organically as Fripito will remain open to all traveling photographers willing to share their good photographic experiences. All a user has to do is contact the developers through the app and create their own guide using a provided template. After your guide is reviewed by Fripito editors, it will be uploaded to the application and allowing users join the growing team of authors uploading their guides on Fripito.

Animoto Grab

Mobile Movie Making

Well, we’ve raved in the past about the fun, creative and easy way the online video service Animoto allows users to create personal videos with their stills and video clips and now these geniuses are giving us a free mobile app for creating these little masterpieces on-the-fly.

While creating and editing video on the iPhone’s small screen would seem to present some challenges, the Animoto app does all the work for the user. All you need to do is pick the style, song, photos, and text you want in their customized video. The company explains that the idea behind the app was to create a product that anyone can access without knowing anything about video editing.

The set up is similar to using the Animoto service at their site, but the app pares things down a bit as there’s roughly 500 free songs to choose from and five theme styles (Animoto Original, A Wonderland of Snow, Cosmic Tidings, Vintage Voyage, and Watercolor Seashore). The app then takes the selected images and stitches them together to the beat of the chosen music. The usual social network sharing options are present and the app is available for both iOS and Android.
