Surely you’ve run into this before: you’re in a place that you want to show off through some great photos, but the weather is against you. There’s a dull gray sky with no room for creativity. In most cases you can make use of tone mapping, gradient filters and the like, but there are also cases where there’s no adjustment that can make the sky look good, and yet something does have to be done with it. There is one last resort—replacing the sky.

Physical polarizing filters have been a useful tool for us photographers for many years now. They help us eliminate reflections and make skies look more natural. But if you don’t have one at home—or if you’ve forgotten it at home—that’s OK. You can also add the same effect on a computer.

During rainfall, you need to protect yourself and your camera, but after the rain, the situation is much simpler. And meanwhile, the pictures that you can take in the post-rain atmosphere are beautiful. Even if a look out the window leaves you with zero desire to head out taking photos, don’t hesitate.
