After uploading a photograph in RAW, you open it using your photo editing software only to discover that the colors are displayed incorrectly. Or, you receive a notification saying that the image format is not supported. These are some problems you may run into with RAW files. The solution is simple – download the Adobe DNG Converter and connect it with Zoner Photo Studio.
Connecting the Adobe DNG Converter with Zoner Photo Studio is easy. Just follow these three simple steps.
- Download the Adobe DNG Converter.
- Install the converter.
- Enter the correct path in Zoner Photo Studio.
Connecting the converter will not only solve problems with colors in your RAW files being displayed incorrectly, but you’ll also get the option to automatically correct lens defects using LCP.
How to install the converter
First, download the DNG Converter from the Adobe website. Click Download latest DNG Converter for Windows.
The page containing Adobe products appears. Choose Adobe DNG Converter and click View downloads.
Adobe automatically chooses the most recent version for download. Then just click Download and the Adobe DNG Converter will be downloaded to your computer.
After downloading the installation file, open the folder where it was saved. Double click the downloaded file to start the installation. Allow the program to make changes to your computer.
After the installation window appears, click Next. In the next step, click Install. As soon as the program is installed, complete the process by clicking Finish.
After installation, a window indicating successful installation opens. Confirm by clicking Finish. The installation is now complete. All that’s left to do is connect the converter with Zoner Photo Studio.
Connect the converter to ZPS X
Now open Zoner Photo Studio. In the Menu, click View > Preferences (Ctrl + M).
A settings window opens. In the left column, select RAW format. Next, click the Browse icon to open a dialogue window. Navigate to the path of the Adobe DNG Converter.exe file, and click Open. The path will look something like this: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter\Adobe DNG Converter.exe.
Check to make sure the box Convert to linear image (interpolate) when converting to DNG is checked. Also check that both scrolling menus below have the DNG Converter selected.
If you previously installed an earlier version of the converter, check to be sure the right path has been entered. Previous versions of the converter were installed by Adobe in the Program Files (x86) folder. For this reason, it’s important to make sure that you are using the correct path.
After you choose the right path, click the Apply button and the program will remember the changes.
From now on, when you work with photos in RAW, Zoner Photo Studio will use the Adobe DNG Converter. You should immediately notice changes to things such as brightness and color in the processed photos.
Adding LCP and DCP
Use the DNG Converter to also add lens profiles to Zoner Photo Studio. This enables the automatic correction of lens defects.
In the Develop module of Zoner Photo Studio X, click the camera icon – Camera and lens (M). Then, use the + icon to choose the correct camera profile (DCP) or lens profile (LCP).
You have the option to automatically choose the profile. Click the Detect automatically button and the program will choose the best LCP for you. All that’s left to do is select the lens defects that you want to have corrected.
Every camera’s RAW format is a bit different. If you purchase a new camera, make sure that you don’t have the old version of the DNG Converter. It may not contain the profile of your new camera.
Nevertheless, Adobe is continually adding new RAW formats to the converter. Just be sure you have downloaded the most recent version.
